Preparing for the First Sing Song

Walden is a camp with a rich tradition of folk music; singing and camp have gone hand-in-hand since Walden opened in the summer of 1970. At its best, group singing represents the unity, spirit, fun, friendship, and just plain feeling good that the “sing-song” experience gives to so many campers.

Sing songs are a regular part of the Walden summer experience. Every year on the first night of camp, the whole camp gathers in Omni for an old fashioned sing-song. Camp’s Director, Sol, and long-time camper and staff member, Steven Pulver, lead us all in a variety of traditional camp favourites. We invite you to listen to and learn all of the songs, found here, and read the songbook below to learn the words!  Not sure where to start?  We recommend these five songs as “musts” for the first sing song:
